The Sallisaw Health and Wellness Center

The Sallisaw Health & Wellness Center (part of Health & Wellness Center, Inc.), began offering services in Sallisaw, a medically underserved area, in January of 2008. Services offered include a broad array of primary and preventative healthcare services, including Covid-19 rapid testing, lab services, OB/GYN services, DOT physicals, employee physicals, school sports physicals, well-child checks, immunizations, psychiatric services, and a variety of behavioral health counseling. They also offer low cost prescription drugs through partnerships with Clif’s Pharmacy, Sequoyah County Drug Company (located within the Sallisaw Clinic) and Wal-Mart. Optometry services are offered Monday – Wednesday in the Sallisaw Clinic and Dental services are offered periodically on the mobile dental bus.

HWC strives, after 15+ years of operations, to continue to provide the “one stop” shop for healthcare needs as originally intended. Currently, Health & Wellness Center, Inc. has over 245 employees (40 of them in its Sallisaw location), with 8 service locations in 7 counties. Besides the Sallisaw location, their clinics are located in Stigler, Eufaula, Checotah, Poteau, Wilburton, and Warner, as well as a Residential Treatment Center for Substance Use Disorder located in McAlester. Last year, in 2020, they served almost 28,000 area residents with over 110,000 patient encounters. Over 6800 of those patients served live in the Sequoyah County area. Their doors remained open to serve the community during the Covid crisis and telehealth services are offered for appropriate visits if patients prefer to remain in the safety of their home.

The Health and Wellness Center receives federal funding to offer a sliding fee discount (based on household size and income) to patients with no insurance, and also accepts all commercial insurance types, as well as Medicare and SoonerCare. They are a private, not-for-profit corporation, with a governing board of directors that must be at least 51% patients that use their facilities. The Board of Directors, as well as the management team of the Health and Wellness Center, all share the same vision of growing and strengthening the health care delivery system in rural Oklahoma. They are dedicated to the mission of providing quality, affordable, and accessible medical, dental, pharmacy, vision, substance use disorder treatment, and mental health care services to people in eastern Oklahoma.

Office hours at the Sallisaw Clinic, located at 1630 South Kerr Boulevard, are Monday -Thursday 7:30 am – 5:30 pm and Friday 7:30 am – 5:00 pm.
